Replace your ERP, buy an existing product or build?

A slow workflow does not by itself justify replacing an ERP. Start with what is getting in the way and compare the cost of introducing and maintaining different approaches.

When is replacement actually necessary?

Describe real situations: repeated data entry, reporting that needs separate lists or important exceptions the system cannot handle. Check whether the cause is configuration, processes, data quality or a genuine product limitation.

Compare options against the same workflows

Test your current system, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP or other relevant products against the same use cases. Include integration and custom software. Ask suppliers to demonstrate key exceptions, data access and what needs extensions or customization. A brand name cannot replace requirements.

Assess the whole investment

Compare licences or development with migration, integrations, training, infrastructure, support and future changes. Mark estimates clearly. Include the organization’s time, dependencies and rollout risks.

Make a decision you can explain

Summarize which needs each option meets, what is missing and why one approach is more appropriate. Test uncertain assumptions in a demonstration or focused prototype. Improving what you have, or postponing replacement, can be a considered outcome.
