Inspection video forms the core evidence for infrastructure decisions. However, individual raw video recordings from crawler cameras can reach up to 8 GB per file, captured across varying native formats and codecs.
Handling these files required a dedicated video processing subsystem. VA-Online had to ingest heavy files, manage background queues, perform async transcoding, optimize streams for browser playback, and bind every video second directly to meter markers and observation logs.
As a result, neither field engineers nor municipal clients need to download gigabytes of raw footage—all video streams instantly and stays frame-accurately synchronized with the inspection log.
Data demands spatial and structural context
Pipeline inspection is not about isolated video snippets. To prioritize capital rehabilitation and maintenance, municipal utilities require every observation to be anchored within its exact spatial and physical network.
VA-Online links inspection video directly to projects, pipe segments, manholes, GPS coordinates, GIS maps, and CAD/PDF drawings. Users never parse disconnected files—the platform plots defects and repair priorities directly on drawings with instant video timestamps.
The field demands more than a browser tab
Not all mission-critical operations happen inside a web browser. Inside inspection vans, industrial parks, or remote pump stations, network connectivity is often intermittent or non-existent. Meanwhile, software must interface with crawler robots, winches, sensors, and capture high-frame-rate video in real time.
We engineered a dedicated C# Windows field application interfacing directly with robot hardware drivers and camera rigs. This allows inspectors to operate fully offline, record raw video, log meter telemetry, and automatically sync completed projects to the cloud once connected.
